Reports of Carcinogenicity:NTP:UNKNOWN IARC:NO
Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:TARGET ORGANS: BLOOD, KIDNEYS, CNS,
LIVER, BRAIN. EYE: IRRITATION, POSSIBLE BURNS, ULCERATION OF
CONJUNCTIVA AND CORNEA. SKIN: SENSITIZATION, IRRITATION. INGESTION:
MAY CAUSE PERFORATION, SEVERE & PER MANENT DAMAGE TO THE DIGESTIVE
TRACT. MAY CAUSE EFFECTS SIMILAR TO THOSE FOR INHALTION EXPOSURE.
INHALATION: CAUSES CHEMICAL BURNS TO THE RESPIRATORY TRACT, METAL
FEVER, CNS & SYSTEMIC EFFECTS, AND RE SPIRATORY SENSITIZATION.
CHRONIC: LIVER & KIDNEY DAMAGE, REPRODUCTIVE & FETAL EFFECTS,
PERMANENT CNS DAMAGE.
Explanation of Carcinogenicity:MERCURY IS CLASSIFIED BYACGIH AS A4 (NOT
CLASSIFIABLE AS A HUMAN CARCINOGEN). IARC= GROUP 3 CARCINOGEN (NOT
CALSSIFIABLE AS A HUMAN CARCINOGEN).
Effects of Overexposure:EYE: IRRITATION, BURNS, DISCOLORATION ON THE
FRONT SURFACE OF THE LENS. SKIN: IRRITATION, POSSIBLE BURNS, RASH,
COLD AND CLAMMY SKIN WITH PALE COLOR. INGESTION: EFFECTS SIMILAR TO
INHALATION EXPOSURE. INHALATION: METAL FUME FEVER, FEVER, CHILLS,
COUGH, WEAKNESS, CHEST PAIN, MUSCLE PAIN AND INCREASED WHITE BLOOD
COUNT. MAY CAUSE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM EFFECTS, VERTIGO, ANXIETY,
DEPRESSION, MUSCLE I NCOORDINATION AND EMOTIONAL INSTABILITY,
PULMONARY EDEMA, RESPIRATORY SENSITIVITY.

First Aid

First Aid:EYE: GET MEDICAL AID IMMEDIATELY IN ALL CASES. DO NOT ALLOW
VICTIM TO RUB OR KEEP EYES CLOSED. EXTENSIVE IRRIGATION IS REQUIRED
(AT LEAST 30 MINUTES). SKIN: IMMEDIATELY FLUSH SKIN WITH PLENTY OF
SOAP AND WATER FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES WHILE REMOVING CONTAMINATED
CLOTHING AND SHOES. WASH CLOTHING BEFORE REUSE. DESTROY
CONTAMINATED SHOES. INGESTION: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. IF VICTIM IS
CONSCIOUS AND ALERT, GIVE 2-4 CUPFULS OF MILK/ WATER. NEVER GIVE
ANYTHING BY MOUTH TO AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON. WASH MOUTH OUT WITH
WATER. INHALTION: REMOVE FROM EXPOSURE TO FRESH AIR. CONTD TO
OTHER INFORMATION SECT ION?..

Fire Fighting

Extinguishing Media:NONFLAMMABLE; USE AGENT MOST APPROPRIATE TO
EXTINGUISH SURROUNDING FIRE. USE WATER SPRAY, DRY CHEMICAL, CARBON
DIOXIDE, OR APPROPRIATE FOAM.
Fire Fighting Procedures:WEAR SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS IN
PRESSURE DEMAND, MSHA/NIOSH(APPROVED OR EQUIVALENT), AND FULL
PROTECTIVE GEAR. WATER RUNOFF CAN CAUSE ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE. DIKE
AND COLLECT WATER USED TO FI GHT FIRE. DURING FIRE, IRRITATION AND
HIGHLY TOXIC GASES MAY BE GENERATED BY THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OR
COMBUSTION.
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard:CLOSED CONAINERS (THERMOMETERS) MAY BUSRT
IN THE HEAT OF FIRE.

Accidental Release

Spill Release Procedures:ABSORB SPILL WITH INERT MATERIAL (E.G.
VERMICULITE, DRY SAND OR EARTH), PLACE INTO CHEMICAL WASTE
CONTAINER. DO NOT USE COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS SUCH AS SAW DUST. AVOID
RUNOFF INTO STORM SEWERS AND DITCH ES WHICH LEAD TO WATERWAYS.
CLEAN UP SPILLS IMMEDIATELY, OBSERVING PRECAUTIONS. PROVIDE
VENTILATION.

Handling

Handling and Storage Precautions:MINIMIZE DUST GENERATION/ACCUMULATION.
KEEP CONTAINER TIGHTLY CLOSED. DO NOT GET ON SKIN OR IN EYES. USE
IN A CHEMICAL FUME HOOD. KEEP CONTAINER CLOSED WHEN NOT IN USE.
STORE IN A COOL, DRY, WELL VENT ILATED AREA AWAY FROM INCOMPATIBLE
SUBSTANCES. KEEP AWAY FROM METALS. STORE PROTECTED FROM OXIDES.
Other Precautions:WASH THOROUGHLY AFTER HANDLING. REMOVE CONTAMINATED
CLOTHIG AND WASH BEFORE REUSE. DO NOT INGEST OR INHALE. DISCARD
CONTAMINATED SHOES. DO NOT BREATHE VAPOR.

Exposure Controls

Respiratory Protection:A RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM THAT MEETS OSHA
29CFR1910.134 AND ANSI Z88.2 REQUIREMENTS OR EUROPEAN STANDARD EN
149 MUST BE FOLLOWED WHENEVER WORKPLACE CONDITIONS WARRANT A
RESPIRATOR'S USE.
Ventilation:USE ONLY UNDER CHEMICAL FUME HOOD.
Protective Gloves:WEAR APPROPRIATE PROTECTIVE GLOVES TO PREVENT SKIN
EXPOSURE.
Eye Protection:EYEGLASSES OR CHEMICAL SAFETY GOGGLES
Other Protective Equipment:WEAR APPROPRIATE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING TO
PREVENT SKIN EXPOSURE. EYE WASH FACILITY AND SAFETY SHOWER.
Supplemental Safety and Health
